This morning, I woke with a scratchy and watering eye. Initially, I hoped it was simple, maybe an eyelash caught in my eye. I applied warm compresses; and over an hour with no relief, I came to the conclusion that it was a sty.

I referenced Louise Hay’s book Heal Your Body. Under sty, I found:

Probable Cause: Looking at life through angry eyes. Angry at someone.

New Thought Pattern/Affirmation: I choose to see everyone and everything with joy and love.

Yes, I am angry at someone personally. I don’t like holding anger. And have worked before on this issue. I have forgiven the soul of that person, but not the individual. I’m not there yet. Someday maybe. With that said, I also give myself permission to be human and realize I have every reason to be angry. What this person did is unconscionable. It’s a betrayal so deep that I have only been able to muster forgiving their soul but not the individual.

On top of this personal anger, I am saddened by and angry about all the hate-induced events that have been increasing worldwide.

So, ‘angry eyes’ fit.

I decided to tap on the anger and related emotions using Emotional Freedom Technique.

After a few rounds, my eye felt better. It’s been several hours and my eye still feels better!

Here is an example of phrases I used to focus on while I tapped (see diagram below):

Karate Chop: “Even though I am still angry at _____. And, I deserve to be angry, I love and accept all of me and all my emotions.”

Karate Chop: “Even though, I feel betrayed, how could ______, do that to me? I love and accept all of me and all my feelings.”

Karate Chop: “Even though I have angry eyes, and I have every right to be angry, I love and accept all of me and allow my body to release whatever parts of this anger it feels safe to release.”

Eyebrow: “I have angry eyes.”

Side of the eye: “I am still angry at __________.”

Under the eye: “I have every right to be angry. Look at what ______ did to me!”

Under the nose: “All this anger within me.”

Chin: “I am open to the possibility that my body can let go of whatever amount of anger it feels safe to let go of. I allow my body to decide.”

Collarbone: “I am open to the possibility that I can release the anger and still be safe and protected.”

Under Arm: “I am now calm and peaceful. I am protected.”

Top of Head: “I can be calm and peaceful and still make good decisions. It is safe for me to be calm and peaceful.”

This example is just one round of tapping. I have worked on anger regarding this particular situation before, so it took less time for me to release the sty (pain and irritation) than it might for a client who is working on an issue for the first time.

If you feel you have anger or feel a negative emotion, I invite you to tune into that feeling and tap. Feel free to modify the statements I used to suit your particular situation as you feel appropriate.
