How do you talk to yourself, are you kind and supportive, or derogatory and degrading? What are you saying to others about your life, finances, relationships and health? What are you saying about others?

We create our reality through our thoughts, our words and our actions. Powerful? You bet!

For over twenty years I have taught my students how to phrase affirmations for optimal results. In this blog I will help you to learn how to use the power of your word to manifest your preferred reality.

Awareness is the first step. Being careful with all of your phrasing either when speaking, writing or talking to yourself is imperative for positive results through affirmations.

The most powerful words in the Universe are “I am”. ‘I Am that I Am’ is the name of God. Therefore, anything follows the words “I am” are very potent. If for example, you walk around saying “I am broke” or “I am sick”. This becomes your affirmation, the Universe hears it and responds with your desire, to be broke and sick. You are essentially saying that you want more “broke” and “sick” in your life.

State your affirmation in the present tense. Make sure you phrase your affirmation is in the present tense. Rather than saying “I am hoping to be married” say “I am now happy and grateful to be married to the man/woman of my dreams.

State your affirmation in the positive. One pitfall when creating affirmations and in self-talk is the use of negatives. The subconscious does not acknowledge the negative. Therefore, if you say “I am not going to be upset” what do you think happens? You become upset. Why? Because your subconscious does not acknowledge the “not” it hears and responds to “I am going to be upset”. Is that what you want?

Feel how you will feel when you have what you desire. When creating affirmations it is important to “feel” how you will feel when you do have or feel the way you want. If you want peace in your life, when you phrase your affirmation “I am now peaceful” feel peaceful in that moment of saying your affirmation. You may not believe it right in that moment and that’s fine. Just continue to repeat the affirmation and do your best to feel how peace would feel. Before long you will notice a shift.

28 day Affirmation Challenge.  I would like to invite you to take the “28 day Affirmation Challenge”.  For the next 28 days write and verbalize affirmations. You can use the affirmations below or create your own life affirming affirmations. Remember to phrase them as follows:

1)      Become aware of what you would prefer;

2)      Begin your affirmation with “I am”;

3)      Use “now” to indicate present tense;

4)      Use only positive words;

5)      Feel how you imagine you will feel when you have what you desire;

6)      Write and speak your affirmations daily. My students find they really benefit from repeating their affirmations before bed and first thing in the morning before they get out of bed.

“I am now prosperous and healthy.”

“I am now happy and joyful.”

“I am now peaceful and content.”

“I am open to receive my highest and greatest good.”

“I am worthy and I accept an abundance of all good things.”

“I am perfect and whole.”

“I am slim and trim.”

“I am youthing!”

“I am so happy and grateful for my life and all the people I know and meet.”

“I am so happy and grateful for __________________________.” This is one of my favorites, I like to journal at least 10 of these every day.

“I am feeling 100% healthy.”

“I now have clarity on the issue of _________________________.” Fill in the blank on whatever the issue is, such as ‘my job’

“I am now crystal clear as to my life’s purpose.” This is a great one for those who are unsure of their next steps.

“I am grateful for ___________________________” (fill in the blank with something you are grateful for now or wish you could be grateful for).

If you are not as happy as you would like to be with a relationship they might use the affirmation of:

“I am so happy and grateful to have (other person’s name) in my life. They are such a joy and a gift to me.” Even if you do not believe it at the time, keep repeating it and notice the shifts within yourself. Before long you will be able to say it and mean it. Eventually, you will truly begin to feel grateful for this person and the gifts they bring into your life.

To change the vibration of a situation, such as finances, you might say something like:

“I am now so happy and grateful that I have all I need. Everything I need is provided for me. I am financially safe and secure.” It may not be true in the moment, but if you believe it you will see it begin to manifest in your life.

Affirmations can be habit forming. How long does it take to form a new habit? A week? A month? A year? I researched this and found an article by Dr. John M. Grohol who states that according to the research to form a new habit it takes at least 2 months (or about 66 days, on average). He continues:

Jeremy Dean over at PsyBlog the other week wrote a great entry that looked at what the research tells us about how long it takes us to form a new habit:

Although the average was 66 days, there was marked variation in how long habits took to form, anywhere from 18 days up to 254 days in the habits examined in this study. As you’d imagine, drinking a daily glass of water became automatic very quickly but doing 50 sit-ups before breakfast required more dedication (above, dotted lines). The researchers also noted that:

Missing a single day did not reduce the chance of forming a habit.

A sub-group took much longer than the others to form their habits, perhaps suggesting some people are ‘habit-resistant’.

Other types of habits may well take much longer.

So 66 days later, a simple habit might be in place and on automatic pilot. But as the research shows, it could as long as 8 1/2 months for more complicated habits to take hold. (Source: http://psychcentral.com/blog/archives/2009/10/07/need-to-form-a-new-habit-66-days/)

Wishing you great success with your affirmations. I invite you to ‘like’ my FB page where you can post your results of the “28 day Affirmation Challenge”.
