DRAGONFLY MAGIC
What an amazing experience I had this morning when I went out to feed my beloved Longhorns. I heard rustling near the barbed wire fence. I looked to see if a plastic bag was caught and blowing in the wind, but the air was still, and didn’t see anything blowing around. The rustling sound continued and I looked closer to find that a dragonfly had become caught on one of the barbs. How he ever got caught is a surprise to me as they fly 30 mph and eat insects in flight!
I stopped feeding the cows and tried to free him (he was a dragonfly, not a damselfly). Anyway, he continued to struggle and I spoke to him and said “You need to calm down I am trying to help you”. With that said he stopped struggling and sat on my finger while I tried for several minutes to open the barb to free his wing. He got that I was trying to help him.
Finally, I was successful. He hovered for a short while as though to say, “Thank you”. Then he flew off with all of his wings intact.
The amazing feeling of being blessed by an interaction with a creature as magical as a dragonfly has stayed with me all day.
Ted Andrews wrote in Animal Speak that dragonflies are ancient and have been around for 180 million years! Some days I feel that old. Their message is “The Power of Light”. Dragonflies denote a 2-year period of transformation, either coming into a new cycle of transformation or coming out of a 2-year cycle of transformation. They remind us to “Let there be light” and use our creative imagination as a force within our lives. Dragonflies bring the brightness of transformation and the wonder of a colorful new vision.
For me, this entire day was magical just because of this simple experience.

Maybe the dragonfly is an indication that we will get that much-needed rain here in Texas. Thank you for allowing me to share this experience with you.
